In 2022, the averaage cost for a family of four to eat a healthy diet in the East Kootenays was $1307/month.
15% of Golden's population relies on the food bank, and only 1 in 5 people facing food insecurity in our community are accessing the food bank.
So far in 2023, the Golden Food Bank (GFB) has distributed 1689 food hampers, supporting 317 unique households in our community.
The GFB is working towarad greater food security and poverty reduction in Golden & Area A. Being in a geographically isolated area, the buying power of our local food bank is signifigantly lower than food banks in a larger urban setting, and a signifigant amount of the annual food bank budget is used to purchase food for food distribution in our community.
How far does your money go when you support the Golden Food Bank?
$5 covers a few cans of healthy soup
$25 pays for fresh eggs and milk that are purchased for a family of 4 for 1 month.
$50 provides "Recipe of the Week" meal kits for four households.
